I want to change the domain name of my website. What do I have to do?

If you want to transfer your website to the .EUS domain, the first step is to register the domain name you want to use. If you need help in doing the registration, the steps that need to be followed are explained in the article What do I have to do to register a domain name?

Once you have registered your domain name, you will be able to carry out the domain change. The steps that have to be followed vary depending on the tool used to develop the website. The guidelines summarise the steps that need to be taken in the most widely used tools (WordPress, Wix, Jimdo…).

If you have used another tool to develop your website, there are two options: not to have a server (because the tool used to develop the website provides you with that) or to have your website located on your server. In the first case, the tool you used to develop the website will have an option on its management console to be able to change the website domain (in some cases a supplement has to be paid).

Alternatively, if the website is on a server that you manage, the best way to make the change is to create a web space on the server for the new domain name into which the website’s files and database can be copied. When the copying has been done, update all the links in the old domain name to the new domain name. When the copied website is ready to function with the new domain name, redirect the old website to the new one.

If you need more detailed information about domain change, you will find it in the migration section of the website.
