SD Eibar and PuntuEUS join forces to promote Basque use across all ares of sport

As from today, the SD Eibar football club will have a new domain, www.sdeibar.eus, for the purpose of strengthening its commitment towards the use and transmission of Basque

The new domain of the official website of the SD Eibar group was presented during a press conference this morning. From now onwards, the website of the organisation based in the town of Eibar will have a new extension (.eus), and users will be able to go straight to all the club’s Basque content. The presentation was made by Mikel Larrañaga, Vice-Chairman of SD Eibar, accompanied by Patxi Baztarrika, Deputy Minister for Language Planning of the Government of the Basque Autonomous Community, and Josu Waliño, Chairman of the Puntu Eus Foundation.

So today there is also a chance to consult the SD Eibar website in Basque by selecting Basque from among the languages offered (the website has three languages to choose from: Basque, Spanish and English), but thanks to the new domain it will be possible to go straight to the Basque version. By joining this initiative, the club is planning to activate new profiles exclusively in Basque in the social networks to renew its commitment with respect to the official language of the Basque Autonomous Community.

Together with other institutions, SD Eibar is working to develop Basque use in all aspects of the club: website, social networks, and with members of the board of directors, and in public appearances of the technical team or the players. The club also confirmed that it is planning to design a Basque-language scheme with the help of a firm of consultants.

SD Eibar is participating in the Euskararen Txantxangorria programme, together with the Government of the Basque Autonomous Community, and is publicising the friendly robin that represents its commitment in favour of Basque use. Furthermore, the SD Eibar Foundation, together with the Government of the Basque Autonomous Community, has given its Christmas and summer “campus” leaders training in Basque use, in order to give the youngsters the chance to manage in Basque in the area of sports right from the start.

Through a video and photos, the SD Eibar Foundation has today activated the #PuntuEUS campaign over its social networks. In all of them Asier Riesgo, the first team goalkeeper, Ainhoa Alonso, the captain of the women’s first team, and Fran Garagarza the sports director, emerged actively in favour of Basque.
