Izaskun Gómez, Director of Commerce of the Department of Tourism, Commerce and Consumer Affairs of the Basque Government; Josu Waliño, director of Puntueus; and Melissa Manso, creative at Burutü, received the award at the gala held at CaixaForum in Madrid. Organized by AEBRAND and backed by professional and business entities, these awards specifically value initiatives that generate a real impact and contribute to the sector’s competitiveness.

The branding agency Burutü was responsible for designing the brand strategy for this project, which is promoted by Puntueus and the Department of Tourism, Trade, and Consumption of the Basque Government. The brand was built on an accessible, modern, collaborative, and positive positioning, proving that digitalization is, at its core, a human process.

A Narrative Rooted in Language and Community

One of the key aspects of its conception is that _GANDIK.EUS is a brand designed entirely in Basque (Euskara), utilizing a creative linguistic play for its narrative. The naming comes from the Basque declension “-gandik”, which means “from” or “from whom,” establishing a direct emotional link with people (zuregandik – from you, niregandik – from me, guztiongandik – from all of us).

By playing with this grammatical structure, the project articulates the descriptive formula “… _gandik … _gana” (From… to…), symbolizing a journey that connects people and moves from the local to the global: from youth and collaboration to the digital network and the transformation of local trade. This semantic choice emphasizes that the project starts from the community and is created for the community.

Visual Identity and Symbolism

This narrative is also translated into its visual universe. The recurring use of the underscore (“_gandik”) functions as a discursive element suggesting an open space for community participation, while also giving a nod to the digital ecosystem. Its corporate colors, pink and yellow, synthesize this spirit: pink represents proximity, creativity, and personal value, while yellow brings energy, movement, enthusiasm, and clarity.

Ultimately, the AEBRAND Award underscores how the agency Burutü and the promoters of _GANDIK.EUS have succeeded in materializing—through a solid brand with deep linguistic roots—an active movement where merchants and young people unite to drive the future of local commerce.

ABOUT _GANDIK.EUS

_GANDIK.EUS is an innovative initiative jointly promoted by the Directorate of Tourism, Trade, and Consumption of the Basque Government and the PUNTUEUS Foundation. Its primary purpose is to boost the digitalization of local commerce, providing it with useful tools to gain visibility online, while simultaneously developing the digital skills of students through real-world projects.

Through _GANDIK.EUS, students from secondary schools, high schools, and vocational training programs, guided by their teachers, develop websites for local businesses. This methodology not only provides technological skills to small businesses but also creates strong bonds of trust between generations, strengthening the social cohesion of municipalities.
The project began the 2025-2026 academic year with a pilot phase in Portugalete and Beasain, where 130 students from seven educational centers are developing 30 websites for shops and associations. Following this initial experience, the expansion plan envisions incorporating four more municipalities in the 2026-2027 academic year and four additional ones in 2027, reaching a total of ten participating locations.

The _GANDIK.EUS project has been awarded the Silver AEBRAND Award in the Impact Innovation category, a distinction that honors excellence and best practices in branding across Spain and Ibero-America.
