PUNTUEUS RECEIVES THE BAI EUSKARARI AWARD FOR BEING A LEADING REFERENCE IN THE DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT
On June 10th, a very special edition of the Bai Euskarari Awards was held at the Albaola Maritime Culture Factory in Pasaia, and the PUNTUEUS Foundation was one of this year’s awardees.
For the first time, the awards left San Sebastián, and the slogan itself—From the mountain peak to the seashore (Mendi gailurretik itsas bazterrera)—perfectly illustrates what they wanted to celebrate: the extensive journey of the Basque language, crossing the diversity of our territory and our community. Joseba Olagarai hosted the event, which featured live music by Leyre Redin.
The work of three entities committed to the Basque language was recognized:
- PuntuEus Foundation: They courageously launched the project to carve out a place for Basque in a predominantly non-Basque-speaking environment. Today, they have become an essential benchmark for using Basque on the internet and giving it visibility. They were recognized for their contributions to the Basque language in the digital world.
- Euskal Moneta: They have taken highly significant steps in favor of Basque. Last year, their entire staff took Basque language classes, and several employees who knew no Basque a few years ago have already achieved the B1 level. They were recognized for their impact on improving the Basque language proficiency of their workforce.
- Mendiak eta Herriak Association: Throughout their 50-year history, they have shown a strong commitment to Basque and have been members of the Bai Euskarari community for many years. Furthermore, they are co-founders of Urmuga, an exemplary project that connects territory, community, and the Basque language. They were recognized for their commitment to the language and for helping to pave the way.
This year’s winners have clearly demonstrated that the presence of Basque is of great importance; moreover, it is essential for the cohesion of our community, the transformation of our work environments, and our digital future. As Beatriz Tomas from the Bai Euskarari Association stated, “today’s awards were not only a recognition of the work done; they were also a boost for the future.” It has become clear, therefore, that Basque is not just a language: it is an opportunity, an added value, and the strength of an entire community.
The Bai Euskarari Association aims to keep building the revitalization of the Basque language: step by step, alongside those who have paved the way, their fellow travelers, and everyone working with their eyes set on the future.
