THE 6TH EDITION OF THE KAIXOMUNDUA.EUS COMPETITION REACHES RECORD PARTICIPATION

- 1,600 students participated; today, the awards for the best websites were handed out.
The 6th edition of the Kaixomundua.eus competition, organized by the PUNTUEUS Foundation, has come to an end, and the awards ceremony took place this morning at the EITB headquarters in Bilbao. The objective of the competition is clear: to develop students’ digital skills and encourage the creation of digital content in Basque through websites.
This year’s edition has been the most successful to date, with a record number of participants: 1,600 students from 68 schools took part, organized into 587 teams, and a total of 273 websites were submitted. As highlighted by Olatz Arbelaitz, president of PUNTUEUS, “these figures demonstrate the positive impact the competition has on the educational community.”
The competition was divided into four categories: lower and upper secondary education (ESO), high school, and vocational training. These are this year’s winners:
- Lower secondary education (ESO): The prize went to the Sagrado Corazón School in Bermeo. Six students with a passion for fashion and creativity created the online store Euskalshop.eus. The award was presented by Ibai Peña, cybersecurity researcher at Tknika, on behalf of the Kaixo Mundua project jury.
- Upper secondary education (ESO): In addition to selecting a winner, the jury gave a special mention to the website hackintzarebels.eus, created by students at the Jakintza School in Ordizia, who developed a media platform that “tells stories to change the world.” The main prize in this category went to bizigasteiz.eus, a site by IES Lakua BHI aimed at promoting tourism and leisure in Vitoria-Gasteiz. The awards in this category were presented by Nerea Enbeita, director of the Euskaltel Foundation.
- High school: The winner was euskalandare.eus, a website created by student Iker Pérez from IES Lakua BHI in Vitoria. The website’s goal is to promote environmental education and the reintroduction of species. The award was presented by Oihane Mateos, digital editor-in-chief at EITB Media.
- Vocational training: The prize went to aztarnak.eus, developed by students at the Usurbil Vocational Training School. The trophy was presented by Olatz Arbelaitz, president of PUNTUEUS.
The event was hosted by Leire Martínez and featured participation from Olatz Arbelaitz (president of PUNTUEUS), Ibai Peña (cybersecurity researcher at Tknika and jury member), Nerea Enbeita (director of the Euskaltel Foundation), and Oihane Mateos (digital editor-in-chief at EITB Media), among others.
The awards ceremony was broadcast live on the eitb.eus website and EITB’s YouTube channel.
