Cultural and territorial domains meet with registrars in Barcelona

PuntoGal, PuntuEus, PuntCat and PuntBarcelona share their plans and perspectives with registrars at a day of work.
Representatives of the Iberian linguistic and cultural domains held a meeting during the day to share their plans for the future, commercial actions for this year and forecast for the evolution of the market and the network.
The for participating domains are also members of the GeoTLDs group, which brings together domains with geographical, linguistic and cultural roots, including .scot (Scotland), .london (London) and .bzh (Brittany), among others, and in which common communication actions are carried out with the public or with the governance bodies of the Internet, such as ICANN.
On the registrar side, the companies authorised to sell domains to the public, the most relevant companies in the market were present, up to a total of thirty attendees.
Forecast for the future
The meeting opened with a conversation between Josep María Ganyet and Marc Argemí, moderated by Albert Cuesta, in which they analysed the impact of artificial intelligence on web browsing and its influence on the domain market, as well as its relevance for security and identity on the Internet.
Josep María Ganyet is a computer engineer, businessman dan university porfessor. He has just publised La democràcia mor al núvol, which warns about the dangers of online espionage and the threat it represents to individual liberties.
Marc Argemí received his PhD in journalism with a thesis on the credibility of rumours and news and currently runs his own communications agency, Sibilare.
Albert Cuesta is a journalist specialised in consumer electronics and information and communication technologies. In addition to his collaborations with various media, he also works as a university professor and has received several awards for his outreach work.
Domain priorities
In the second part of the session, each of the domains presented their current situation as well as their plans for the rest of this year and 2024.
Issues such as the emergence of artificial intelligence, changes in European legislation and the protection of user data were some of the topics discussed. Questions such as cybersecurity, the work of domains to achieve a more secure network and the new possibilities of online identity certification were also discussed.
On the more immediate side, the possibility of launching a joint commercial or branding action was laid on the table.
The meeting ended after a working lunch with the intention of resuming common tasks on future occasions.

About .barcelona
