The University of Deusto and the PUNTUEUS Foundation signed a collaboration agreement today, November 27, at the University of Deusto’s San Sebastián campus. The signing ceremony was attended by Josu Waliño Pizarro, the foundation’s general director, and Juan José Etxeberria Sagastume, the rector of the University of Deusto.
The PUNTUEUS Foundation is responsible for the management, administration, and operation of the .EUS domain, whose mission is to drive the digital transformation of Basque society through the Basque language. Through this agreement, the University of Deusto will promote initiatives to enhance the presence of the Basque language on the Internet and carry out activities encouraging the use of the .EUS domain among its staff, tutors, students, and alumni.
Thanks to this agreement, University of Deusto students will be able to register .EUS domain names for free on the open market. This free service will be maintained as long as they are students and can use the domain for academic projects, personal blogs, or leisure-related websites. Additionally, tutors, students, alumni, and employees of the university will be able to register a free server for the first year, with technical support and training provided during the process.
The University of Deusto and the PUNTUEUS Foundation will also launch initiatives to expand knowledge in the fields of the Internet and digitalization, organizing lectures, training sessions, and exploring other opportunities as they arise.
The PUNTUEUS Foundation was founded in November 2014 at the University of Deusto’s San Sebastián campus, in the Innogune building. This year, as it celebrates a decade and surpasses 15,000 registered domains, it proudly stands as a major reference point for Basque society.
The agreement will remain in effect for the 2024-2025 academic year and will be automatically renewed each year for an additional one-year term.
