.EUS domains celebrate their 10th anniversary

Iñaki Goirizelaia announces his farewell after 8 years as president and receives a warm tribute.
The 10th anniversary of the .EUS domain has been celebrated at Gure Zirkua in Tolosa, to celebrate the collective dream of the Basque community and the success in the digital environment. The anniversary event gathered 350 people to jointly celebrate the achievements of this key internet project.
The celebration, which sold out well in advance, brought together a diverse group of people: institutional representatives, professionals from the digital industry, advocates for the Basque language, and domain users. Before the event began, an official group photo was taken featuring Iñaki Goirizelaia, president of the Puntueus Foundation; Andu Martínez de Rituerto, mayor of Tolosa; Garbiñe Mendizabal, director of the Linguistic Equality Forum of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council; Miren Josune Irabien, director of Basque Language Promotion at the Basque Government; Sabino San Vicente, director of Administrative Innovation at the Basque Government; Iñigo Robredo, director of Digital Strategy at the Basque Government; Elixabete García, director of Digital Transformation at the Basque Government; and Nerea Isasi, director of Equality at the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council.
The most emotional moment of the afternoon was the speech delivered by Iñaki Goirizelaia, President of the PUNTUEUS Foundation. He announced the end of his 8-year term and reflected on the past decade of the .EUS domain, highlighting its success in the digital environment:
“Today, we stand before you happy and filled with excitement for the future. It’s already been ten years since we started using the .EUS domain, and we can confidently say that the project has been stabilized. The dream we had in 2007 has come true. Today, .EUS is reliable, secure, stable, and always close to its users. We have earned the trust of the Basque people.
However, making our dream a reality has opened new pathways for the dreams of many organizations, businesses, and individuals on the internet. Today, we are managing 15,700 dreams, as behind every .EUS domain is a dream—personal, business, cultural… In other words, we are enabling the dream of a community in the digital square.”
Before leaving his position, Goirizelaia was honored with a heartfelt tribute. As a token of appreciation, Sua Enparantza dancers placed a beret on him, a symbol of Basque culture, and Iratxe Esnaola gave him a bouquet of flowers to acknowledge his work and contribution.
The attendees enjoyed a beautiful afternoon, with the 350 guests experiencing a special performance at Gure Zirkua, symbolizing the collaboration between Basque culture and the digital world.
